Mauro Caldana has always had a keen interest in the natural world. He has conducted research on various falconiform birds in the plains and foothills of the Pordenone Pre-Alps. He collaborated with the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park in the creation and management of the Bird Sanctuary in the municipality of Andreis and for twenty years with the Province of Pordenone in the management of injured wild birds. In 2008, he received the Environment Award from the City of Cordenons, and in 2010, the Mus d'Aur from the Friulian cultural association Colonos. He is the founder of the Cordenons Naturalistic Association, of which he was president for many years. He published four books: “I Magredi raccontati ai bambini” (The Magredi narrated to children, 2008), “I nostri amici animali” (Our animal friends, 2012), “Le scarpe degli animali” (Animal shoes, 2015) and “La mia aquila” (My eagle, 2025).
