Nature brings endless wonder. But because opportunities to experience nature in pristine conditions are fading, we are depriving human life of one of the most genuine sources of happiness and fulfilment.

In his book Feral, The Guardian columnist George Monbiot explains how we can bring wonder back into our lives by restoring and rewilding damaged ecosystems, on land and at sea. The book is "the lyrical and gripping story of Monbiot's efforts to re-engage with nature and discover a new way of living."

Restoring forests (and of course preventing them from being destroyed) is also an extremely effective way of storing carbon and mitigating climate change.
