Being fully aware of the climate and ecological breakdown may lead to legitimate frustration, idleness and despair. However, pessimism and inaction won't help. Those who do not react risk becoming themselves a part of the problem, rather than contribute to the solutions.

As the climate activist and writer Emily Johnson put it:

Our job is not to feel hopeā€”that's optional. Our job is to be hope, and to make space for the chance of a different future. (...) What fuels me is the knowledge that we can still make a difference, and therefore we must: we can preserve lives, and life, in the most basic and beautiful sense possible.
